According to a survey conducted by the General Statistics Office (GSO), many companies in the manufacturing and processing industries are optimistic about the outlook for the second quarter of 2020.

Overall, the survey results show that 38.8% of target companies believe they will improve in the second quarter over the first three months of the first quarter, and 35.3% say their business is stable. On the other hand, 25.9% of all target companies expect to face more challenges.

In the manufacturing and processing sector, only 18% of firms believe their exports will increase in the second quarter compared to the first quarter, while about 37.5% will decline. Others, 44.6%, are forecast to be at the same level as the first quarter.

In the first quarter, 42% of the manufacturing and processing sector was affected by the new coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic in production and operations.

On the other hand, 37.1% have stable production. Compared to the previous quarter of 2019, only 20.9% of companies saw improvements in production and operations.
